Press Cuttings - Opportunity knocks for local trainees
Stirling Shopper 5th September 2002
The employment door has opened for eight Joblink graduates after they successfully completed Stirling Councils first Access to Information Technology and Administration training course.
The graduates, aged between 18 and 52 years old, have recently finished the first 20 week computer skills training course run by the councils Joblink initiative in partnership with councils Personnel Services and local company Learning IT.
Two Graduates have already secured employment and the others have recently been to interviews or are about to be interviewed.
And to mark their special achievements Chief Executive Keith Yates presented the graduates with the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) certificate at a ceremony in the councils headquarters. The delighted graduates were Joyce Lauder, Donald Saunders, Sally-Anne Monaghan, Karen Kenny, Tracy Hoggan, Dawn Lindsay and Jacqueline Hallam. Graduate Suzzanne Mclanagham was unable to attend the certemony.
The training course is aimed at people from the SPUR area and particular single parents, people wishing to return to work perhaps after having a family or who have been made redundant.
"This new course provides the type of qualifications, confidence building and work experience which is in demand by employers," said Councilor John Paterson.
Learning IT Director Duncan Macleod said: "We're delighted to be involved in such a worthwhile project, which enables local people to re-enter the job market with new skills and confidence. The ECDL is well recognized as an excellent qualification and we are sure the skills which graduates have acquired will stand them in good stead."
Funded by Stirling Council and the European Social Fund Program 3, the course also gives trainees personal development, work experience and interview skills as well as paying traveling and lunch expense.
